Like many others, I purchased this kit as my first electric guitar, in fact my first ever guitar. I haven't played a musical instrument since alto sax in the 6th grade (I am now 31)... But I've long had this feeling, that since I enjoy hearing music so much, I would enjoy playing it, too. This product's slogan is "Stop dreaming, start playing", and that's 100% correct. Why wait? Life is short, if you've been wanting to try playing a guitar or any instrument, just buy one and do it.
At the same time, I couldn't justify paying a lot for something I might be terrible at or lose interest in after a month. That's why this kit caught my eye - it's affordable. Is it the highest quality guitar? Uh no, don't expect it to be. Is it better than some guitars that cost more? Undoubtedly. My Squier Affinity Strat has taught me two things: 1.) I love playing guitar, 2.) I love the sound of Fender Strats.
I read reviews and watched YouTube videos of people playing this exact model. I was instantly hooked on the sound, the versatility it offers, and the bridge humbucker was a big factor in my decision. Of course I was skeptical that an experienced player could make even a piece of junk sound decent. I looked at other kits, the ones that most tempted me were the Epiphone Les Paul player packs. In the end, I liked the look of this guitar (shape and red color) and the Fender Strat association more, so there you have it.
Once I received it, I knew I made the correct decision in choosing an electric guitar. In no time at all, it felt like a natural extension of my body, rather than an instrument I was holding. I didn't even bother tuning it first, I was so anxious to see how it felt and played, and had a thrill making some surely awful noises.

Comment 6 people found this helpful. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuseI've played acoustic guitar for years, and I've always wanted to try my hand on a Strat. I bought a very expensive American Stratocaster a few years ago but it was stolen before I had a chance to learn to play it. At that time I looked at a few beginner Strats by Fender that were made in other countries. They weren't very impressive, (hence the reason I bought the expensive model). When I read some of the rave reviews about this Squier I was skeptical, but the price was so good that I decided to give it a shot. I've had it now for a few days and I still can't believe what a great guitar this is. The fit and finish is WAY, way better than I expected! I honestly cannot find a blemish or flaw anywhere on this guitar. When I think about the fact that this came with a little amp, cords, a tuner, a strap and a gig bag - well I just wasn't expecting too much in the guitar. Was I wrong! This is an amazing guitar! If I do get better and one day buy a more expensive model, I will never get rid of this one. It is that beautiful!

TL;DR - If you want to learn guitar and don't know where to start, this is the package for you. The amp isn't the best but it's affordable and gets the job done. If you have some knowledge already and you want to improve quickly, buy individual pieces and make a proper setup, especially if you're on a budget. If you're interested in more details, continue reading.
So here's the deal. What you see is what you get - a basic amp with no additional effects (that's a bit bad) and a well built and comfortable guitar. I'm closing in on my third month of owning and playing this guitar, using the same amp, on a nearly daily basis.
Pros:
- The guitar is standard weight, ergonomic and feels good to play
- The frets are smooth at the edges
- The guitar cable is decent
- The included accessories sets up any beginner to jump right into it
Cons:
- Slight faults on the fretboard (see images) but that's expected with mass production items
- The amplifier is atrocious past volume 2. The static it emits is way too much, even for a cheap amp (I have nothing conflicting with the device that can cause this). I will be swapping it out for something better, maybe from Line 6, ASAP.
All in all, this is an excellent starter package for a beginner - maybe someone around 13 to 15 - who never even picked up a guitar before. However, regardless of age, if you play as much as I do you will have to replace this setup under a year.
So if you're on a budget like most aspiring musicians, I recommend getting help from a reputable guitar store and buying the pieces individually but if you have no idea where to start, this is the package for you.

I have a friend that told me after playing a generic guitar for a while and then getting my hands on a decent guitar that I would notice the difference in the two and boy was he right.i got my hot rod strat today and its been great.the quality and feel is just awesome.its lighter than the generic trash ive been playing.it comes with a great amp as well.i bought the g1on effects pedal a few months ago and then ordered my fender mustang that made the pedal redundant .this new amp has a real nice clean sound so now I can use the pedal again.i love this guitar and don't miss the generics at all,i sold those and put the cash on this bundle.the guitar I got was flawless and wasn't to far out of tune either.i say get it.im on a fixed income and this bundle was what I needed.5 stars +10 more.
