Here's an early amber applied handle kerosene lamp from the 1880s or 1890s with its very rare ruby red glass cigar lighter globe! The amber finger lamp is hand blown in mold with crude applied finger grip handle......round "Nutmeg" style, but has no embossing....2 7/8"tall to brass threaded collar (6 7/8"total height counting burner and globe).
The ruby red glass globe is authentic and very hard to find! ...it is 3"tall and has a 1 1/2"opening in top which has a ground surface.....bottom opening is 1 7/8"wide and has a flared rim which nests into a circular shade ring gallery which has a little set screw which tightens down to hold the globe tight in place. Everything is in excellent shiny near mint condition with no chips or damage, (except a couple shallow chips or flakes on top ground opening). Sparkling clean with no haze.
This type of cigar lighter globe was designed especially for lighting cigars in saloons, hotels or places of business usually. The special ratchet type burner gave off enough heat to ignite the cigar when held inside the opening of the globe. The ruby red color of the glass is not flashed or stained....it is the actual color of the glass itself, which was produced using gold. This was expensive to make, which accounts for the rarity of these globes. Most were eventually knocked off the bar and broken, which explains also why so few survive. You are getting both, the amber lamp and the ruby red glass cigar lighter globe!
