The deep, dark red colour is formed due to the age of the stone and with high pressure and temperature found within the depths of the Earth, which is where this unique stone is formed.

The other common varieties of aqeeq/carnelian that are orange-red, are found of the face of the Earth and are known to be 'new' stones compared with the great Yemeni Shefat al Abd aqeeq which is found within the depths of the Earth.
