Additional Notes related to this Vintage Hohner Accordion

As seen in one of the pictures, a marking in black on the instrument might likely testify to the original May 1924 owner, “Phyllis Hildebrant".

And then, an additional (later) scratched-on identification marking shows a “PHC” with an accompanying social security number 504…

Well, the 504... social security number ties the musical instrument to:

Phyllis H. Collins,

or more specifically to:

Phyllis Nancy Hildebrant Collins, born on July 3, 1908 in the tiny town of Conde, Spink County, South Dakota.

In 1924, Phyllis Hildebrant was just over a month shy of her 16th birthday when she in all likelihood became the very 1st proud owner of this  post-WWI Hohner accordion.

After graduating from Conde High School, Phyllis was trained at Northern Normal School in Aberdeen, SD, and became an area teacher.  Then during WWII she came to Washington DC, working at the pentagon.   In 1951, Phyllis Hildebrant and Dr. William A. Collins were married, and afterward  they continued to reside in DC.

Phyllis H. Collins’  life (and her accordion's life) paralleled the 20th century, and she passed away at the lofty age of 97 in 2006 in Rockville, MD.    After her death the accordion came to me via an estate sale.    Phyllis and her husband are buried in Conde, SD, the small midwestern town of her youth.
