A large antique Victorian cast iron door knocker with its original backplate.

A very classy and elegant piece of Victorian door hardware.

The top of the loop is decorated with the head of the Greek god Hermes wearing his winged helmet.

It is very well detailed - please see all the images.

It has the Victorian date lozenge, but I cannot make out the letters/ numbers to date it exactly.

With the back plate it measures approx 28cm long (11”) x approx 6.5cm wide (2½“) at the widest point.

The back plate alone is approximately 14cm (5½“). The striker plate is approx 4cm (1⅝”) in diameter.

Reclaimed from the front door of a Victorian house, it has some residual paint on the reverse,

original door was blue & then later it was painted white – please image of strike plate reverse side.

Thank you for viewing my listing.
