Z Scale Z Gauge Marklin Quartermasters: Marklin Salesman's Demonstration Amiet Briefcase Train Layout
 
This is the first and only Marklin salesman's demonstration Amiet briefcase layout for Z Scale trains that I've encountered.  Externally, the briefcase layout is a high-end Amiet executives black leather briefcase with the "Marklin Z" logo in one corner on the top side of the case, red outlining and "mini-club" in white on the bottom of the top side of the case.  The case has two handles (an Amiet feature), brass Amiet hardware and combination lock latches.  When you pick the case up, you note it's heft.  Open the case and you see the reason for the weight: a stainless metal interior - mirror finish, on which is mounted an oval of Marklin track wired to Marklin's  battery controller and a small plexiglass display case with track and trees.  Hand written on the metal is "Lassen Sie Ihren guten Waren von der Augen Ihrer Kunden kreisen" (Let your customers see your good products running.)  Then your eye catches the lid's train car trays, also stainless metal, on which little gray metal squares are mounted on each row.  Place a Marklin train car over each square, and click! the squares are magnets, and they stick to the metal train weights inside the cars, keeping the car in place.  There are also two plastic covers on two rows.  There is a piece of track mounted on 1 row with magnets and rail stops on each end.   The briefcase measures approximately 17 1/4 inches x 13 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches.  The layout and controller are in excellent shape and work perfectly. The briefcase leather reflects it's top quality finish; the leather still has a smooth finish with no signs of dryness or cracking.  The leather has rub marks on the case corners, and scuffs on the leather that you would expect on a salesman's travel case, but no rips or tears in the leather.  The leather stitching is intact.   Please review the pictures, they are part of the description.   Note: Locomotives and train cars pictured are for perspective and to demonstrate the features of the layout. No locomotives or train cars are included with the layout.

This briefcase layout is a rare find used by Marklin's reps during Marklin's Z Golden Age which was never cataloged or offered for sale to their customers!
