Konica was late getting into the REAL half-frame market, but when they did, 1966, they made a very nice camera.  It is one of the fastest half frame cameras ever made, and Konica is well-known for their superb optics!  The EYE has a 30mm (f1.9-16) focusing lens surrounded by a selenium meter.  Focusing runs from infinity to 3.5 feet and can be set by distance "eye"-cons in the viewfinder.  The lens also has easy, focusing, "click-stops" for group and portrait settings.  The meter sets the aperture and the shutter speed automatically and displays the set shutter speed in the viewfinder.  Exposure is a programmed exposure type -- at 1/30, the f-stop is f1.9; at 1/800 the f-stop is f16.  For flash use, the apertures can be set manually with a 1/30 shutter.  There is also a B setting for the shutter which sets the aperture at f1.9 -- great for night shots. ISO film speeds are from 10 - 400. Shutter speeds from 1/30 - 1/800. In low light conditions, a red flag pops up over the shutter speed scale to prevent a bad exposure.  Flash synch and cold flash shoe are built-in.  It also has a tripod socket, cable release connection, and a 46mm filter thread.  It is sometimes called the WARDS CYC since the middle section of each "E" in "EYE" are dots instead of dashes -- to simulate eyes.  The dots are easy to miss and it makes the "EYE" look like "CYC" instead.  The Soviets liked the design so much they copied it when they made their Fed Micron -- which was available in different versions.

The camera up for auction here is the WARDS EYE.  It is ALMOST exactly the same as the Konica EYE, but not quite -- even most collectors don't know the difference.  Yes, the WARDS EYE was made by Konica, but unlike the Konica EYE, it is not stamped "EYE" on the top plate.  Instead, it has a cold shoe in the same spot.  The Konica EYE does not have this flash shoe -- for some reason!  The Konica EYE is not that common, and the WARDS EYE is even less common.

And what is most unusual is that the selenium meter, the shutter, and the aperture on this camera ALL work perfectly.  The meter was tested against a Minolta Auto-Meter II and is "right on".  Check the other current sellers of the Konica EYE on EBAY right now -- most have dead meters or other problems.  In addition, on this WARDS EYE, the lens optics and the viewfinder are clear as can be -- no scratches, fungus, oil, etc.  See photos.  All functions work perfectly.  The camera is also in EXCELLENT cosmetic shape -- see photos.  Very few minor signs of use.  There is some minor deterioration of some of the inside foam, but it can be used "as is" or it is easy to find, buy, and replace.

Also included is the original wrist strap -- stamped KONICA -- and a like-new, cushioned, vinyl, non-original case -- to keep the meter alive.  The case has a main pouch for the camera and a side pocket for film, filters, flash, etc.  Adjustable shoulder/hand strap.

You won't see one of these anytime soon -- and NONE in this condition!!!!
