Rare Provincial Solid Silver Trefid Table Spoon. Thomas Salter. Exeter c1690

A rare solid silver provincial  trefid table spoon  by Thomas Salter of Exeter.

Dated circa 1690. Salter was granted freedom in 1678 and this mark was used until 1700

Trefid pattern handle with a threaded rat tail to the back of the bowl.  Handle  initialed and dated E.P over N.B 1719 indicating this was likely a gift to celebrate a marriage.

Condition: In very nice conditions for its age, has two small hairline fractures , on to the top of the handle and one to the back of the bowl , both are likely very odd, they are stable  and have not carried through the spoon. Bowl possible tidied up a little ,typical age related wear to the surface. Nothing overly outstanding that detracts from the look of the spoon .Nice example of a rare spoon , excellent makers marks.

Hallmarks: Struck three time with makers mark TS (conjoined) this is noted in Timothy Kent's book West Country Silversmiths and their marks.
