Description

Hello and Welcome

Harmon Clayton Killebrew, known as "Killer", was one of the hardest hitters in baseball.  He played in the American League for 22 years.  Beginning his baseball career when he was only 17 years old, signing with the Washington Senators, he was a "bonus baby" because of the bonus he received besides the contract monies.  In 1961 the Washington Senators moved to Minnesota to become the Minnesota Twins.  While playing for the Twins, his record included 48 home runs in 1962, 45 in 1963 and 49 in 1964.  In 1969, he led the Twins to their first American League West title.  Killebrew's agility and power allowed him to play third base, first base or the outfield.  He ended his big league career in 1975 while playing for the Kansas City Royals.

Killebrew's achievements in Baseball are many.  In 1959 he won the home run title hitting 42.  He hit over 40 home runs 8 times in his career.  In 1969 he hit 49 home runs which earned him Most Valuable Player award.  His career total for home runs is 573.  His versatility on the field earned him The Sporting News All Star recognition as an outfielder in 1964, a first baseman in 1967 and a third baseman in 1969 and 1970.  He was named American League All-Star 11 times.  In 1984 Harmon Killebrew was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
