Offered for auction is a classic Icom IC-756
HF/50 MHz All Mode Transceiver. Some of the early models had a
display problem where lines appeared on the display.
This unit has lines on the display. (See
the pictures) For more information about the probable causes
for the lines, and those who have repaired them, as well as more
information about the classic Icom 756 per se, go to: http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/163 The lines do not interfere with the operability of
the unit. The built-in automatic antenna tuner works fine on all
the bands; but will only match 1:1 if the antenna system is not
that far out. If your antenna system's SWR is higher than 3 :1,
then the built-in antenna tuner will probably balk, and you will
probably need to use an external antenna tuner. Except for the
display lines, the unit is fully functional. On sideband, with a
SWR of 1:1 or pretty close, the unit puts out between 75 to 80
watts; and the audio reports were always good with the included
stock microphone. This unit does not come with any filters. There
is one scratch on the bottom, in the front, in the plastic, where
it looks like it might have been rubbing against something while
it was being transported, but you can not see it from the front.
Other than that, their are no scratches or dings anywhere on the
unit, and all the knobs turn smoothly, and all the buttons and
connection points work. Cosmeticly, there is no discernable wear
on the front, or any other sides. The unit was purchased about a
year ago, and it already had the lines on the display when it was
purchased. If you would like to have a visual representation of
what is going on around you on the band, in real time, you will
not be able to beat this classic 756 for the price. Included in
the auction is the OPC-025A power cable; which is a 114", (9'
5") dual-fused, # 12 AWG, MTW red & black twinlead power
cable; and a HM-36 hand microphone. This unit does
not come with a power supply; and the power supply
used should be able to provide a full, continuous, 20 amps for
best results. You can download the full operating manual in PDF
format at: http://www.icomamerica.com/en/downloads/DownloadDocument.aspx?Document=23 When shipped, this unit will be double boxed, using
professional methods and materials, and will be insured. The
shipping weight will be 30 pounds. This unit is being
sold as-is, with no return, so bid accordingly.
