You will want to grow this highly nutritious plant in your herb garden! Swiss chard contains antioxidants, vitamins E and K, magnesium, manganese and potassium. Swiss Chard Rainbow is quite striking with dark green leaves and bright red, pink, orange and yellow stems and veins. It is a hardy plant and related to the beet. Position Red Swiss Chard herbs in full sun. They thrives in soil that has had organic matter added. It is recommended to add a couple of inches of compost to the soil a few weeks before planting the Swiss Chard seeds.
SOWING Sow outdoor: March - July Harvest: July - October Sun: Full sun Water: Medium Depth: 1/2 inch (1 cm) Plant spacing: 12 inches (30cm) Sow seeds from March to July at 1 cm (1/2in) deep in a good seed compost. Thin seedlings to 7cm (3") apart. Ready to harvest after 50 days from sowing. |
