Edward Curtis photographed the native Americans of 80 tribes west of the Mississippi between 1898 and 1928, in order to document as much traditional life as possible before that way of life disappeared. The result was a famed, beautiful 20 volume set of 2200 photographs, with a forward written by President Theodore Roosevelt.
