Levi's 501 Raw White Oak Selvage Shrink-To-Fit - Long Day
Since introducing its iconic riveted denim jean over a century ago, Levi's has periodically tweaked the fit, fabric and features of the Levi's 501 jean to suit the needs and preference of the modern worker. The Levi's 501 is an icon of American culture and offers a fit that is straight through the hip with the signature button fly, regular rise designed to sit on the waist and a regular leg fit. The Levi's 501 features a 5 pocket construction, classic 501 features and unwashed leather Levi's 'horses' patch on the rear waist, Levi's Red Tab branding on the rear pocket and their signature 'V' stitching on the rear pockets.
The Levi's 501 is full of heritage and was originally designed for workmen, so they have to be extremely durable. To this day they are still made from a heavyweight 100% cotton denim and are built to last. Copper rivets at vital stress points on the jeans keep "wear and tear" to a minimum.
In 1915, Levi Strauss & Co. approached Greensboro, North Carolina’s Cone Mills about taking over as the main supplier of denim to the then 62 year old maker of riveted workwear. An agreement came together quickly and Cone gained the exclusive rights to manufacture Levi’s proprietary Shrink-to-Fit denim for the production of all Levi’s Lot 501 Jeans. This watershed moment in American denim history became known as “The Golden Handshake” and is a gentlemans agreement that remains in place to this day.
White Oak Selvage Denim has been proudly produced by Cone since 1896 and at the White Oak plant since 1905. The selvage denims are woven on American Draper X3 fly shuttle looms from the 1940s. Fabrics woven on these vintage looms contain a depth and dimension that is completely unique.
Selvedge comes from the term 'self-edge', the woven strip on both edges of a roll of fabric. It is traditionally woven on narrow-width shuttle looms, producing a clean edge and signature stitching, unique to stitching.

Still true to its heritage, the White Oak plant in Greensboro, NC, operates today as the denim flagship operation, serving as the center for product development and innovation, and the production of Cone Denim’s authentic premium vintage denims made exclusively in the USA. Whether using its most modern equipment and technology, or utilizing its vintage narrow shuttle looms, White Oak has the unique ability to innovate and style with distinct creativity, precision and control.
Levi Strauss & Co. has been innovating since the birth of the first pair of jeans on May 20th, 1873. One day the wife of a local laborer asked Jacob Davis, a tailor and one of Levi's loyal customers, to make a pair of pants for her husband that wouldn't fall apart. Jacob came up with the idea to put metal rivets at points of strain, like pocket corners and the base of the button fly. Davis collaborated with Levi and soon the first riveted clothing was made and sold. The first pair of 'jeans' were made from traditonal denim, a popular choice of fabric for men's workwear, and within a very short time the jean was a bona fide success.
In 1873, two visionary immigrants turned denim, thread and a little metal into what has become the most popular apparel on earth.
