These Royal Nishiki vases with heavy moriage are beautifully hand painted with roses and beaded gold grapes. The gold is real.  These vases could not be reproduced today for this price. Each vase has the standard globe Royal Nishiki mark on the bottom of the vase. This mark dates each vase to the late 1800's or early 1900's.   Each vase is numbered 42/128.

Each vase is approximately 12.5 inches tall and 7 inches wide. For being over 100 years of age the vases are in  Good antique condition, some minor damage with some flea bites and flakes. "   Please carefully view the last two photos.  There is a brush stroke of gold and an imperfection on one of the rims of a vase.   Also, in the other vase you can see in the last picture some loss of paint to the rim of the base. These might be small chips.  However, the rim is smooth to the touch.  Price has been reduced accordingly.  The vases are sold as is and there are no returns.

Moriage is the term used to describe the layering of small beads or lines of slip clay onto the surface of the pottery, vase or bowl to create three dimensional decorative effects. The Moriage were often painted gold after the glaze had been applied, giving the pottery item a unique and special finish. The beads were all placed onto the pottery by hand before it was fired in the kiln.
