Seahorse Carving Stone Hand Carved Animal Figurine

This hand carved semi precious gemstone Sodalite seahorse figurine is 2.75 inches long and 1.5 inches wide by just .5 inch thick. 

It does not stand on its own.

Sodalite is a rich royal blue mineral. Although massive Sodalite is opaque, crystals are usually transparent to translucent. The white inclusions are Calcite. It comes from Bahia, Brazil.

Discovered in 1806 in Greenland, Sodalite did not become important as an ornamental stone until 1891 when vast deposits of fine material were discovered in Ontario, Canada. Sodalite gets its name from its sodium content.
