The Bozo live near the Bamana along the river Niger. They are primarily fishermen. While their masks are made in the form of animals, such as antelope and rams, their primary function is to insure the fertility of the fish, so that they will be successful fishermen. They are attached to a structure, which is covered by cloth, and conceals the dancer. Metal overlay and tacks show the influence of the Marka, who are also in this same area.
