Any equipment in any equestrian discipline can be potentially harmful if not used responsibly. If you look at the image of the horse standing still (in our picture gallery) you will clearly see the horse not pinned in, as the horse moves, he is gently encouraged to reach forward, thus encouraging him to work correctly and in balance across his back. The pressure from the Lunge Lo is probably around 50% less restrictive than hand contact from the reins you hold when riding. Lunge Lo is in fact recommended by equine veterinarian & physiotherapy professionals.

Attachments:
The original design has a leather disc and some of the copies have plastic discs which we have noted rut the horses fur, as a result we purposely omitted this from our design in place of carefully sourced double English Braid line which is extremely soft and silky to the touch, the loop (which can un loop with one hand due to it's softness) is positioned across the withers and slides rather than digs. In several years of using our proto type the sensitive area it covers has never been irritated. 

The Chest Guard:
Our soft but sturdy Chest Guard is included with all Lunge Lo's and is used to keep the line centred and to prevent the lines from slipping under the horses arms. However, we have used it without and our line is so soft it has never caused chaffing of any kind.

Using the correct Tension:
All horses and ponies can "hoon" around from time to time, even in cases where the horse decided to demonstrate un scheduled "Airs above the ground" the tension of the Lunge Lo would be significantly less than that of other lunging aids of any kind.

We recommend you start of with a short loop. And crucially for young horses, please ensure the tension is set so the horse or pony works in front of the vertical.
