Condition:
- Case - Fair condition. As shown in the pics, there are small scratches and wear throughout the case. There are some medium-sized indentations on the ends of the lugs. . Serial and reference numbers, which are typical in later Rolexes, are not visible in between the lugs. I am not sure if that was normal in these older bubblebacks or the digits are just worn (or polished) off... It is unclear if the case was ever polished.
- Case Back - Fair condition. It has some noticeable scratches. But the main issue here is that the case back screws on slightly crooked, so that when you tighten all the way, there is a slight gap and the some of the gasket sticks out (see pics# 5 & 6 above). This is a result of either a warp in the case back, warp in the case itself, or issue with the threads. I am not sure which, but my gut tells me is it fixable with a lot of patience.
- Crystal - Very Good condition.
- Dial - Fair condition. As indicated above, it is unclear to me if the dial is original or refinished. There might be elements of both... Under magnification, one can see micro-cracks, which from eye level looks like a nice patina. There are also some marks and stains throughout the dial.
- Crown - Fair condition. Under magnification, one can see some discoloration, wear, and small indentations. But there are no issues with screwing in/out the crown.
- Hands - Decent condition. Reasonable amount of oxidation, especially on the Hour & Minute hands. Lumes are intact and functional.
- Movement - I am not aware of the service record. That said, I tested the movement for a few days and it seems to run about 2 minutes fast per 24 hours, but it is not consistent. I would recommend a full overhaul/cleaning service.
- Leather Strap - Decent condition. Color is a little faded.
COMMENT: Unique Vintage Rolex... I purchased this watch from a very reputable US auction house. The gold case is eye catching on the wrist!
