Russian Lacquer box. Kholuy Rapunzel. Beautiful long gold hair. The box is round and maroon which is very unusual. The box is signed and titled. This is the real deal. Beware of cheap boxes that use decoupage and are not fully hand painted. I got these from the estate of a world Traveler. He was a diplomat and spent a lot of time in Russia.

Russian lacquer art developed from the art of icon painting which came to an end with the collapse of Imperial Russia. The icon painters, who previously had been employed by supplying not only churches but people's homes, needed a way to make a living. Thus, the craft of making Papier-mâché decorative boxes and panels developed, the items were lacquered and then hand painted by the artists, often with scenes from folk tales.

Size: Approximately 3.5 inches by 3.5  and 2 inches deep.

Condition: Nice vintage condition as pictured. No chips or cracks. Please see all the pictures as they are part of the description.  

I use a Nikon 1 J3 14.2 megapixel camera shot with macro lens (extreme close up) this draws out many flaws that are not noticeable in hand. Check my feedback; in most cases items will look better in hand than the pictures show

Shipping on all items is Parcel Select or First Class shipping with delivery confirmation on items shipped to the US, unless stated otherwise. If you want Priority mail it is usually listed as an option, if not and you desire it or would like to add insurance, contact me at the end of the auction and I can send you an amended invoice.
