Geology: Malachite is a dark green copper carbonate with a hardness of 3.5 to is 4. Malachite is an index mineral for all prominent sites at which copper can be found. Whenever copper is discovered in the ground, malachite is found, too. This precious stone is fascinating because of its deep dark green color. Depending on the amount of groundwater containing oxygen that reaches the copper, very thin stone layers which can have up to one meter thick cavities are formed with the malachite in the earth. Amongst these are, for example, the sites at the former copper and silver mines in Neubulach at the foot of the Black Forest where, nowadays, as well at every building site large amounts of malachite-green stones are found. The main sites are in Zaire, Arizona, Australia and the newly established sites where the mineral can be found in the Ural. Most tumbled stones, jewelry and handwork comes from Zaire.

Historical tradition: Traditions about malachite date back to the third millennium B. C. The Egyptians treasured the malachite as a stone of hope and trust which would bestow upon the wearer luck and harmony in the partnership. Even in the period before Christ, malachite was used to give frescos and paintings their very deep green colors. Eye shadows and remedies were also made from malachite by the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Owing to its deep green color with lightly waved stripes, malachite achieved high importance as a stone to be used in medicine and as a semi-precious stone. Even today, the stone still enjoys great popularity.

Curative and therapeutic effects on the body: Malachite is a very powerful stone, which generates special healing powers when used alone or in combination with other stones. When used as malachite water or tea it purifies and detoxifies the arteries, vessels and organs of accumulated residues and negative energies. The energy genera­ted by malachite, particularly when being applied as a chain over the heart, does not only protect the heart as such against cramp, inflammation and overstrain, but in turn it also protects us against inadequate circulation, hypertension and disorders of the pulmonary arteries. Likewise, malachite has very stabilizing and purifying effects on the cardiovascular system. We recommend you to roll your malachite or malachite chains in a handkerchief and discharge it overnight in a dry bowl with hematite tumbled stones.
