CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Indiana Pacers

vs

Los Angeles Stars

For the first time ever, the highlights of every game of the 1970 ABA Championship Series between the Indiana Pacers and the old Los Angeles Stars are now available in COLOR on a new DVD from Rare Sportsfilms!   Narrated by ABA sportscaster Don Criqui, this fabulous new DVD brings back all the nostalgia of this memorable classic, the last games played by the Stars as a franchise from Los Angeles!

Actual full-COLOR game-action highlights of all the big plays of every game of the series are included!   You’ll see great shots of both old ABA arenas; the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum and the Los Angeles Sports Arena!   During the presentation, you'll hear Stars coach Bill Sharman talk about a new ABA invention, the 3-point shot or "Home Run", as it was first dubbed by ABA marketing executives.   You will also hear him and Pacer coach Bon Leonard during game huddles talking strategy and encouraging their players.   Throughout the film, you'll see Pacer players Bill Keller, Fred Lewis, Mel Daniels, Bob Netolicky, Art Becker, John Barnhill, Tom Thacker, and Roger Brown.   In action for the Stars are rookies Mack Calvin and Willie Wise, Merv Jackson, Craig Raymond, George Stone, Bob Warren and Tom Washington.

Game 1 at Indianapolis: - Even with star center Mel Daniels on the bench most of the first half with foul trouble, the favored Pacers jump out in front in the series with a convincing 109-93 victory in the series opener.   Veteran Tom Thacker comes off the bench to contribute 13 rebounds and 6 assists.    Daniels, back on the floor most of the second half, scores 16 in the 4th quarter as Pacers win going away.   Keller hits two 3's in the final period, as Stars try to sag in on Daniels!

Game 2 at Indianapolis: - It's a much closer game two nights later, but the difference is the offensive rebounding of the two Indiana big men, Daniels and Netolicky, who also score 31 and 32 points respectively (at one point in the game, Netolicky hits 10 straight shots from the floor)!   Merv Jackson's 28 points help L.A. to a 96-96 tie midway thru the third quarter, but Pacers still pull out a 114-111 win to go up two games to none in the series.

Game 3 at Los Angeles: - The Pacers start off this game as if they will easily sweep the Stars in 4 straight games.  With Roger Brown both feeding off and scoring, the Pacers build up a 21-point lead by the end of the first quarter!   But its an entirely different game in the second half, as hot-shooting George Stone pours in 27 points in the next 24 minutes and leads the Stars to their first playoff win in franchise history, a 109-106 victory!

Game 4 at Los Angeles: - Roger Brown begins to assert himself as the star of the series with 15 for 21 from the floor, including 3 three-pointers, and 14 of 16 free throws for a total of 53 points and 13 rebounds, as the Pacers win this high-scoring game, 142-120!

Game 5 at Indianapolis: - Back at the Fairgrounds Coliseum the Pacers go all out to try to clinch the series at home.   This game as a sizzler, as the lead changes 16 times and the game is tied 14 times!    Making it tougher for the Stars, Craig Raymond fouls out in overtime, but Los Angeles, with great shooting, still hangs on to win this thriller 117-113!   Roger Brown scores 39 points for Indiana, and Mack Calvin has 33 for the Stars!

Game 6 at Los Angeles: - It's another close one, and the final ABA game ever played at the old Los Angeles Sports Arena, as Indiana leads by one point, 54-53 at halftime.   The turning point of the game occurs in the third quarter when Stars center Craig Raymond turns his ankle and is forced to sit out the last 19 minutes of the game.   The Stars still lead by two beginning the fourth quarter, but Roger Brown is having another fabulous game, hitting a playoff record seven 3-pointers and scoring 45 points total!  Fred Lewis also scores 18 for the Pacers!   Near the finish, the game is tied 107-107, but the final score is Pacers 111, Stars 107.  George Stone scores 28 for L.A.
