Item
description: For sell is an antique Litherland Davies
nautical chronometer with original wooden box. This item was made in Liverpool,
England and is numbered 854 of 17953. I believe this would have been
manufactured in the 1830s or 1840s, but please rely on your own expertise for
this. This appears to be a 2 day chronometer. The wooden box measures 5 9/16
inches by 5 9/16 inches by 6 1/8 inches. These dimensions do NOT include any
bolts or such that are extruding from the box itself. I have included the maximum
number of pictures for this listing, but if you would like any specific
pictures, message me and I will send them to you. This item was purchased at a
local antique auction. The items all came from various homes in the Western
Pennsylvania region.
UPDATE: I have added pictures of the movement. I have also deleted several pictures including the back of the box, 1 side of the box, and a close up of the face. If you would like to see these deleted pictures or any other pictures of this item, please message me.
Condition:
Item was not tested for functionality. I do not have any keys that go to
this chronometer. The lock has been broken off of the box. The wood above the
lock has been repaired (reattached to the box). The arm that is meant to hold
the instrument stationary does move. It will only fit into the first slot, but
will not pass through it. Due to this the arm will only prevent the
chronometer from moving in 1 dimension, instead of 2 (i.e. when locked the
chronometer will not move up and down but can still move right and left). I have included pictures of the movement. While I did not test the movement, visually it looks very good. This
item is nearly 200 years old and shows wear consistent with this. I cannot guarantee
any functionality on this item, given its age. If you have any questions please
ask and I will do my best to answer.
Local Pickup: If you would like to meet in person to inspect or purchase this item please message me and I will try to make arrangements. I live in Johnstown, Pennsylvania; which is close to Pittsburgh, PA.
Shipping:
Item will be double boxed, bubble wrapped several times around, and
packed in packaging peanuts. I will ensure that the chronometer cannot move
inside of its housing. I will probably do this by gently stuffing plastic bags
around the item. As of now I will only be including select countries to ship to.
Please message me about international shipping.
If you have any questions about this item or any other item I have
listed please send me a message. Please ask any questions you have before
