This is a lovely Vintage / Antique Stockinette Black Americana Doll. Based on my experience, I would estimate her to be from the 1930s or 40s. She may be older than that, but I don't think she is newer than that. She is made out of black socks. She is stuffed with cotton, her nose made of two stitches, and her eyes are mother of pearl buttons. Her mouth is not embroidered on, it is a knitted piece (most likely an old sweater or another sock) that was cut out and sewn on. The doll's head scarf is cotton, while the rest of her clothes feel like linen. While most of her clothing is machine stitched, it is attached to her with hand stitching.
I find her to be in very good condition for her age. There is a hole in the side of her head, that can be completely covered by her scarf, but would also be fairly easy to sew up. The line around her neck is a pale blue piece of fabric. It may have once been a bow or meant to represent a necklace. The dress is in two pieces, a top and bottom. There are only one or two stitches holding them together in the front. There are some tiny holes in the fabric of the dress and apron.
Approximately 17" high overall. The dress a little longer than the legs of the doll, so the actual doll is closer to 15 1/2"
