This is a FABULOUS COLLECTABLE and rare Dancer's coat worn in the 1952 production of 'HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN' starring DANNY KAYE we are offering! It is in beautiful condition and done in a wonderful lavender purple wool. It has a 'vest' underneath done in a pale gray-blue satin with black velvet ribbon stripes, The coat has a 'false front' with the lavender wool appearing to be separate from the vest showing underneath, but it is all attached. The striped vest fastens with large hooks and eyes. There are 4 small covered buttons at the center front of the lavender wool coat that are only for show as the vest is what fastens. The coat has long lapels and a fairly good sized collar as you can see in the pictures. The long sleeves have ivory cotton ruffles at the wrists and up the seam about 3 inches. This split fastens with a large snap to keep them snug. The sleeves have 4 covered buttons on each done in black velvet. It is fully lined in a quilted black satin; the sleeves are lined in a champagne satin. This fabulous coat is from Western Costume Company.

'HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN' (1952) starred DANNY KAYE; FARLEY GRANGER; ZIZI JEANMARIE and many others! "Once upon a time there lived in Denmark a great storyteller named Hans Christian Andersen. This is not the story of his life, but a fairy tale about the great spinner of fairy tales." The movie serves as a vehicle for Frank Loesser songs that recount the famous tales of Thumbelina, the Ugly Duckling, the King's New Clothes, and the Little Mermaid.

It is a size 36.

There is very light fading on the tops of the shoulders / sleeves. I would recommend a professional cleaning to press the lapels.
