Give your space that look which you craved for years.

The Hawaiian palm (Brighamia insignis) is a very unusual and decorative houseplant. New leaves form in the crown and the older, lowermost leaves turn yellow and wither. In its natural habitat in Hawaii very few of these exceptional and decorative plants remain, so the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) is working together with scientists and volunteers, on a survival plan. For every plant sold, a sum is donated to the IUCN.

Planting

The Hawaiian Palm is a very strong and beautiful houseplant, although it is called a palm it is actually a succulent, so will need very little water. Preferably use potting soil for cacti or mix some sharp sand or fine gravel with regular soil. Choose a pot with holes in the base and cover the bottom with a layer of gravel or hydrograins. Put some soil mixture in the pot and plant the root ball of the Hawaiian Palm at the appropriate depth. Fill with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. Place the pot in a bright, warm area, but protect the leaves from direct sunlight.

Care

Water your Hawaiian Palm approximately once a week or you can miss a week if the soil is still moist. Too much water will damage the plant. Remove the leaves that have turned completely yellow to stimulate the growth of new leaves. Spray the leaves regularly with rainwater. During the winter, keep the Hawaiian Palm in a pot in a cool, dry area (10-12 ° C). In spring you can place it in a sheltered warmer area and increase watering. It may need repotting into a larger pot, also add fertiliser diluted in water. By the summer, your Hawaiian Palm will look great on your patio.

Specifics

Brighamia insignis is a very unique succulent plant from Hawaii. In Hawaii, it is a volcano palm and a very rare and protected plant. We donate a share of the proceeds to protect wild plants in Hawaii such as the Hawaiian Palm. Its trunk is like a water reservoir, therefore, this plant is drought tolerant. Remove the leaves at the bottom as they turn yellow. In time the older leaves at the bottom of the plant are shed, leaving leaf scars, resembling the trunk of a palm tree. In the winter months, light yellow flowers may appear.
