Before 1973, when the Lego manufacturing facility first opened in Enfield, Connecticut the only source of Lego for young American children was from the Samsonite Company in Canada or Europe. The sets of the early 70s were simple sets of mostly blocks, plates, slopes and windows. By the mid 70s the Lego people were introduced followed by the faceless, limbless minifigures. Popular sets were the smaller construction vehicles, buses, planes & helicopters. Soon the play sets called Eviro-Models came along with a Quarry (580), Hospital (555) and a Police Station (585). In 1978 the introduction of the mini-figure changed everything!
