This lovely tea caddy is decorated with bamboo, plum branches, and chrysanthemum blossoms on the sides as well as animal motifs such as a turtle and a rat (or monkey)!  The lid displays stylized people who are dancing or holding hands and a dragon.  Likely pewter or silver plate over a base metal. The original stopper is steel.

The caddy is marked on the underside (please see photo).  It is likely from Japan or possibly China. Exact age is unknown and early 1900s is an estimate.  It stands 5 inches tall and weighs 11.6 ounces.  How nice to find a vintage tea caddy with a stopper that makes it potentially practical as well as decorative!
