Fables, Ancient and Modern is a collection of translations of classical and medieval poetry by John Dryden interspersed with some of his own works. Published in March 1700, it was his last and one of his greatest works. Dryden died two months later.

8" x 13"---646 pages. There is a skip in page numbers in the Theodore & Honoria chapter--from th 260's to the 360's--error?

Printed on rag paper. Binding is probably later--3/4 leather with marbled covers.
Original owner's bookplate inside cover--Charles N.... Sturtevant. Cannot make out the middle name.


CONDITION: The covers are both detached. Leather spine has slight peeling of book title. Inside pages are fine for the most part---printed on rag paper. No illustrations.
