Selenite is a common crystalline form of Gypsum (hydrated calcium sulfate).  In hot arid deserts, water often evaporates from shallow, salty basins.  Under such conditions, Gypsum can grow around grains of sand to form flower-like clusters of flat, bladed Selenite crystals.  These rosette-shaped clusters are called Desert Rose Selenite.  Other names include Sand Rose, Rose Rock, and Gypsum Flower.  The name Selenite comes from selene, the Greek word for "moon."

In the Metaphysical realm, Selenite is believed to enhance will power and decision-making, and to aid powers of concentration and clarity.  It is often used for meditation and to remove energy blocks.  It is considered a stone of truth and honesty.
