A Moro budiak spear head made from laminated steel that has undergone differential heat treat to both blade edges each side.

as you can see by the 2nd pic the spear was rusted when i found it at an antiques fair here in the uk, the rust however was surface rust that had at some time during its life and likely when collected been covered with grease or some type of oil, this saved the spearhead from further corrosion and literally sealed it from the air  therefore stopping any further oxidisation and leaving the blade beneath only very slightly surface pitted.

I have cleaned the blade by means of hanging it in a pineapple juice tube to gently remove rust (an old restorers trick) and cleaning it gently with very fine wire wool over a number of days and have repeated the process over a number of days until it was clean.

The blade then was given a final dry clean up with wire wool and gently etched to bring out the laminate pattern which is more prominent as you can see in the core centre section of thicker metal in the middle of the spear, and the darkened areas that show differential heat treated cutting edges,it was then given a good coating of Japanese Choji oil as is used for Japanese sword blades.

I think it is fair to say that the job has been dome well and has brought this amazingly constructed old spear head back to life and made it worthy of any high end ethnographic edged weapons collection, not the twist core type but still a very very well made piece and with a very well created laminate within, I have priced it according to price when purchased and the number of hours spent restoring it, any sensible offer will be considered for this lovely old piece of Moro tribal history and no sensible offer will be rejected.

size is total length 16 ins including tang and it is quite heavy for its size.
