Up for sale is vintage Citizen "Cosmotron" hi-beat electronic (sometimes called "electro-mechanical") watch.  The serial number dates it to June of 1976.  This is a Japanese Domestic Model ("JDM"), as demonstrated by the day wheel, which is bilingual between English and Kanji (Japanese).  That's usually regarded as a perk by collectors.

The Cosmotron, like Seiko's "Elnix" model, was an interesting technology that used a traditional balance, but it's powered using a battery instead of a mainspring.  When quartz became mainstream the technology died, but like the Accutron tuning fork movements they were an interesting bridge between traditional mechanical and battery-operated quartz.  The Cosmotron line lasted quite a while overall, and you can find a lot more about them online.  This is one of the later models that has a 36,000 bph movement, giving the second hand a very smooth glide and (supposedly) making the watch more accurate, or at least more adjustable, given the smaller increments of timekeeping.

Mechanically, this watch is working extremely well with a fresh battery. The hands set as they should, and the day and date change properly when the hands pass midnight, and via the unusual quickset feature - you push the crown in when it's right-side-up to change the day, and when it's upside-down to change the day (or maybe vice-versa, I forget).  This is keeping time predictably at -1 second per day, which is (obviously) phenomenal.  But I have no idea when it was last serviced - it came to me in a lot of non-running models.

Cosmetically, the watch has seen far better days.  The crystal is faceted and very scratched, and also looks to be on wrong (facets aligned at an angle).  The dial/hands/hourmarkers/cosmotron emblem all look nice and shiny without tarnish, but the Citizen emblem looks slightly bent.  The case and caseback, and especially crown all show a good amount of wear.  The watch comes on a gold-tone stretch band, which is nothing special but would do in a pinch.

Happy bidding!

I'm an amateur collector of vintage Japanese watches, mostly Seiko and Citizen.  As such, I won't accept returns unless the watch arrives in different condition than as described.  Please examine all photos as they are part of my description.  This will only ship internationally via ebay's "global shipping program," which is the (expensive) quote you should automatically see in the listing if you aren't in the U.S.  In my first real attempt at using this, I received messages from folks in Spain, England, and France all telling me that it wouldn't let them bid, so I apologize if it does so for you - there's nothing I can do to correct it :(.  If you have a feedback score of less than 10, please contact me prior to bidding or I may cancel your bid.  I am happy to combine shipping costs as long as whatever I'm selling will fit safely in a flat rate small USPS box, but the Global Shipping Program won't let me do this unless you agree to cancel your auction wins and re-do the sale as a single Buy-it-Now option, so be warned of that eventuality if you are an international bidder.  I generally don't consider a buy-it-now option.  Thanks and happy bidding!
