Shearwater Alto  'A' " Piper's" Whistle

Shearwater Whistles equal the best on the market for tone, quality and price. They are handmade in Northumbria, UK by musician and instrument maker and repairer, John Bushby.

These whistles have an aluminium body and have an extra bottom G note.  This makes them ideal for playing Scottish pipe tunes and other traditional music where an extra bottom note is required.  The bottom hole is offset (see photo) to make the fingering easier.  They can be used as a normal A whistle but have the added option if needed.

They have a plastic mouthpiece block and a curved windway.

The sound has a clear and carrying voice which makes them ideal for playing with other instruments, whether in sessions, live performances, or in the recording studio.

All whistles are handmade and are fully tested for tuning before leaving the workshop.

DO NOT rely on an electronic tuner set at A440 to test for tuning as the air temperature affects how the whistle will read tuning wise.  If the air temperature is around 68F then A 440 is fine. The higher the air temperature the higher your tuner needs to be set and vice versa.

As these whistles are totally handmade there may be signs of the material having been worked; this in no way effects the playability but shows they are handmade.

As with all alloy or aluminium tubed whistles they require warming up before playing in pitch.  This is quite normal.
