A nice old Mortice Marking Gauge stamped with the maker's name: C Nurse & Co, London.
Good vintage condition.
Possibly one of the little spikes has been pushed in?  See photos. 
All the brass is very nice and clean and I think the wood is Rosewood.
When you loosen the screw on the front, you can slide the brass lever easily.
