Beautiful Hand Worked Antique Vintage French Linen Sheet Cutwork Monogram FS Generous size

This lovely large sheet has been hand worked to create a very detailed cut-work border with a cut-work monogram and embroidered depicting the initials F S.  For Frederick and Sarah perhaps? The lacy work on this is in excellent condition, just a couple of small broken brides (see photo) which aren’t noticeable. The cut work creates a pattern across the full width, a lot of work and very time consuming. Sheets like this were initialled to make part of a ladies trousseau and the work was very often carried out by the betrothed young lady.  I wonder how many hours were spent creating this elegant sheet. I haven’t seen monograms worked in this way before, so well matched to the overall pattern.

In very good condition, bright, crisp and freshly laundered. The bottom hem bears a very faint laundry name; normal for sheets of this kind which were sent to be laundered.
