HISTORY
Remington's roots go deep in typewriter manufacturing. They jump-started the industry in the late 1800s by contracting to produce Sholes and Glidden typewriters and quickly assumed leadership in the market. While Remington may be better known for its firearms manufactory, it was a force to be reckoned with in the typewriter market.

DESCRIPTION
Remington began production of its Model B3 Portable Typewriter in 1935 in the midst of The Great Depression. This 3 ½ Bank typewriter was designed to remove all keys and functions not absolutely necessary to everyday typing. The number row is truncated to four keys, forcing you to shift to access alternate numbers, and to resort to the O key to type a Zero and the L key to type a 1. Another unusual feature is the 45-degree incline of the typebars and the resulting bulge in the metal housing.

The company only produced the machine in the year 1935, and they only produced  5,076 units. As a result of this extremely short production run, the Remington B3 is one of the rarer typewriters to be found. This is indeed the “Holy Grail” of the Remington Typewriters line.

The typewriter measures about 9.75” W X 11.5” D X 4.75” H and weighs around 12 pounds with covered case.

CONDITION
This item is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. All of the keys work as expected. The metal housing is extremely clean and shiny with very few paint losses - one spot in the center of the bulge, a few losses below the Space Bar where palms would rest, a couple of spots along the ridge line bulge, and some wear on the back where it comes into contact with the case cover. There is slight loss to the gold-painted “REMINGTON” on the Paper Rest. There is a 0.25” minor crease and associated paint loss on the right side of the housing. The case top is in pretty rough shape. The ribbon has pretty much run dry and will need to be replaced.
