Compared to the Model B it has:

  • More GPIO. The GPIO header has grown to 40 pins, while retaining the same pinout for the first 26 pins as the Model B.
  • More USB. We now have 4 USB 2.0 ports, compared to 2 on the Model B, and better hotplug and overcurrent behaviour.
  • Micro SD. The old friction-fit SD card socket has been replaced with a much nicer push-push micro SD version.
  • Lower power consumption. By replacing linear regulators with switching ones we’ve reduced power consumption by between 0.5W and 1W.
  • Better audio. The audio circuit incorporates a dedicated low-noise power supply.
  • Neater form factor. We’ve aligned the USB connectors with the board edge, moved compositevideo onto the 3.5mm jack, and added four squarely-placed mounting holes.

Rasp Pi Troubleshooting
Great Resource for Raspberry Pi Troubleshooting

  1. Red and Green LED Stay On after plugging in power indicates the Pi 2 could not read the boot loader from the SD card.
    • The image was incorrectly flashed.  Please follow this flashing guide.  We recommend using Raspbian as the test image.
    • The image does not support the Pi 2.  It does not have the required firmware and/or kernel for the Pi 2.
    • If you are using NOOBS, please make sure you extract the NOOBS zip file contents to the root of the SD card.
    • SD card is exFAT formatted.  The Pi 2 supports reading the bootloader from FAT32 partitions only.
      • MicroSDXC cards, 64GB cards, and many 32GB cards are formatted to exFAT from the factory.
      • Reduce the partition size and format it as FAT32.
    • The SD card is not supported.  List of tested SD cards.
    • Some Vizio TVs have difficulty with negotiating resolution.  Try a different TV or monitor or playing with the HDMI settings.
  2. Solid Rainbow Colored Square on top right corner indicates the voltage is getting low.  This is not a problem by itself.  If your Pi is spontaneously rebooting or hanging, it may mean that your power supply cannot deliver the current necessary.
    • The Raspberry Pi 2 will peak at 700mA by itself.  If you are connecting USB or other peripherals, you may need a power supply that can deliver more current.
  3. Solid Red Colored Square on the top right corner indicates that the device is over the temperature threshold.
  4. No HDMI Output with a Solid Red Light
    • The resolution can't be properly auto negotiated. Play with the HDMI settings in /boot/config.txt.
    • Your TV/Monitor does not support HDMI common ground. Try a 19 pin HDMI cable instead. These TVs are not safe to use with many single board computers because the "ground" pins are not truly grounded.
