A charming and endearing 6th plate daguerreotype of a young girl by SAMUEL VAN LOAN on Philadelphia.

Size 3 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches. In a full case with photographer's icon: VAN LOAN AND CO's GALLERY 118 CHESTNUT ST, PHILADA

The image has a late 1840's look to it. The sitter is a pretty young girl seated next to an urn filled with real flowers, including roses. There is a hairline scratch which becomes visible under strong illumination running down the plate. Seen in normal, available daylight this is not visible. I can also see a few tarnish spots and chemical stains. The girl'expression is of apprehension and mild anticipation as she watches the operator take her likeness. This is a beautiful daguerreotype.
