SYNOPSIS ....

Everyone knows that tyrannosauruses are big and scary, so when a placid duckbill dinosaur's egg ends up in the wrong nest confusion is sure to ensue! When the baby dinosaur hatches out, he's so out of place that his grisly big sisters call him Tyrannosaurus Drip. Poor little Drip: all he wants is a quiet life munching on water weed ...

The duckbill dinosaurs live across the river from the T-Rex's. The duckbills are peaceful plant-eaters. The T's are scary meat-eaters. When a duckbill egg hatches in the T's nest, both the new baby and the T-Rex family must try very hard to get along. But the little dinosaur, nicknamed Drip by his new family, soon proves he's not such a drip after all―in fact, he's a real hero!

Dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages will cheer for Drip in this timeless story about little versus big, written by the author of the beloved and bestselling picture book, The Gruffalo.

'A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood.

A fox saw the mouse, and the mouse looked good.'

INDUSTRY Reviews

"With scansion firmly in hand, Donaldson pens a rhymed tale of dino-heroism perfectly complemented by Roberts's comical cartoon scenes of toothy carnivores and trumpet-mouthed vegetarians . . .

T. Drip is definitely a dino worth hooting over."-"Kirkus Reviews"

"Brilliant fun from the creator of "The Gruffalo"  -  Slightly older kids will love this, and you adults will probably enjoy it too." supernanny.co.uk

From School Library Journal  ……  Kindergarten-Grade 3—In this prehistoric setting, waterweed-eating duckbill dinosaurs live on one side of a river, and a "mean Tyrannosaurus with his grim and grisly bride" live on the other. "What a shame that bridges aren't invented yet," the Tyrannosauruses say. But then a duckbill egg accidentally lands in the T. rex nest via an egg-snatching Compsognathus. The hatchling is dubbed Tyrannosaurus Drip by his sisters because he prefers to eat plants and sings "Down with hunting! Down with war!" instead of singing "Up with hunting! Up with war!" Just as Drip discovers his true family, lightning strikes and, lo and behold, a tree bridge forms across the river. Hilarity ensues as the rather dense Tyrannosauruses attempt to cross. The dinosaurs are rendered in an Art Deco-influenced style, and the lines roll off the tongue like the rhymes of Dr. Seuss. Children will enjoy the repetitive lilt, and adults will appreciate how naturally it reads. Expressive characters enhance the humor, and the limited palette helps emphasize just how different the creatures' worlds are. An enjoyable group read-aloud.— Kim T. Ha, Elkridge Branch Library

OTHER READERS'  REVIEWS

The whimsical illustrations add the perfect youch to this delightful dino adventure   …Tyrannosaurus Drip is a charming children's picturebook about a conflict between dinosaurs. The peaceful, plant-eating duckbill dinosaurs live across the river from the ferocious, meat-eating T-Rexes. And what the T-Rexes want to eat most is duckbill dinosaur meat! When a duckbill egg hatches in a T-Rex nest, the little duckbill named Drip finds that he just can't adapt to their carnivorous ways. Not only does little Drip find solace with the other duckbills, he proved clever and heroic enough to save them all from the T-Rex menace! The whimsical illustrations add the perfect touch to this delightful dino-adventure.

My boys LOVE this story  … My boys love this story. It is very entertaining. It has a great refrain that is perfect for reading out loud. It has great message about gentleness and belonging. We love it.

FIVE STARS … LOVE Julia Donaldson. Such a talented writer. My kids will read this book (and her other books) over and over without getting bored.

Julia Donaldson is  a fabulous author ..   … I loved this book and most others written by Julia Donaldson. Tyrannosaurus Drip is about a little dinosaur who doesn't quite fit in with the other Tyrannosaurus Rex's , he eventually finds somewhere where he belongs and is happy. You are introduced to ideas of 'bullying' and emotions such as fear, happiness and a sense of belonging.

The story has a consistent rhyme which helps to build a beat and rhythm when reading and also presents opportunity for the audience to guess whats coming next. It also has a recurring chant that one could be creative with when reading to children, encouraging audience participation. It has some uncommon syntax for younger children that could be introduced and focused upon during a literacy lesson as part of creative writing.

The book presents fantastic opportunities for creativity with the characters voices, it could be used to create role play and really gives a good sense of the ideas of good and bad, it could easily support a topic about dinosaurs and perhaps less obviously topics about friendship or community. The pictures by David Roberts are bold and colourful, the colour being darker on pages where the mood is more sombre, the pictures would be great for engaging boys in art by perhaps getting them to create their own dinosaur or even their own dinosaur land. I would recommend this book for ages 5-8 and suggest that it is particularly good for boys.

GREAT fun!!  …. This book is so fun and the rhymes are really cute and funny. I absolutely love the illustrations in this book! I am huge on illstrations in childrens books and these do not dissappoint. It is a perfect book for children who love dinosaurs and rhyming books.

You won't regret getting this!   ……. Reading this book (borrowed from the library) to my neighbor children made me laugh out loud. It was an instant sensation and every family wanted a copy to own. When my grandson got to be 4, I bought him a copy, too. It's a real delight to read and full of all the things that make children ask for a story over and over.

A FUN  read ….. Great message, wonderful illustrations, and super fun to read to your kids. We have this out to our nieces and nephews for Christmas last year.

4 & 2 year old LOVE it!!  …. Awesome story. Great way to introduce children to the concept of an exclusively-veggie diet!!
