A fine Georgian Oak and Inlaid Longcase Clock of excellent quality by the documented maker William Bull of Leicester, dating to around 1770, and in good and full working order. There is a lable from Brian Loomes on the back of the case door giving some details on the clock, it was obviously restored and sold by him in the past so its nice to have a bit of the clocks history.

The case is in Oak with inlays, and is in very good condition throughout. The long shaped case door with a moulded and crossbanded edge, with inlaid fans to the corners and a marquetry shell to its centre. The door with its original brass hinges and replacement working lock behind the brass key escucheon, and the door is flanked by fluted columns with bold corinthian column tops. The base with canted corners and a geometric crossbanded front panel, and the clock stands on its original double shaped plinth at 93 1/2 inches in total height including the finial.

The hood with its superb swan neck pediment, the elegant horns sweeping up towards the centre and being finished with simply beautiful carved wooden paterae, and the hood is surmounted with its brass finial to the centre. The glazed hood door with its original old flawed glass, and the door is flanked by fluted columns at each side with Corinthian column tops to match those on the lower case.

The Brass and Silvered dial is in beautiful condition, the silvered chapter ring having hours represented by Roman Numerals, with an outer minute ring and with its inner edge with the 31 day calendar ring which the silvered calendar hand point to, indicating the date. The engraved center of the dial with the fully working subsidiary seconds dial, the top arch with the makers silvered name boss engraved "William Bull, Leicester" inside dolphin spandrels. The dial is finished with its set of elaborate spandrels to the corners, and set of steel hands.

The 4 pillar rack and snail striking, 8 day duration movement is in nice clean condition and in full working order, chiming out the hours on a single bell. The clock is set up and keeping excellent time, and comes complete with it's old weights and pendulum, along with a winding key.

Important Notice

It has been brought to my attention that someone on eBay is sending scam emails offering to sell goods similar to my goods at cheaper prices from abroad. This is a deliberate attempt to deceive, these items are all in my possession. They will ask you to send money to them, DO NOT, they do not have any goods to sell, you will never hear from them once you have paid. I only answer to emails that you send to me, and will never send emails to you offering to sell you goods at ridiculously low prices. If you receive one, please let me know and I will report it to eBay immediately. Because of these emails, I have now decided to make all my auctions private auctions so my customers will not be bombarded by these fraudulent people. Thanks.
