For sale is this splendid centerpiece compote from Dresden porcelain makers. Made in German Schierholtz manufacture around turn of 19th and 20th century, this is a beautiful and very decorative piece of great quality porcelain entirely produced and decorated by hand.
This piece has an outstanding glaze and stunning vivid colors, with meticulously detailed flowers on the base and basket-bowl, as well as rich gilding throughout. There are 4 figures on the base sitting around the tree positioned against a wooden fence. It is known as a genre scene with pair of lovers dressed as shepherd and shepherdess located in a bucolic country scenery, and accompanied by a goat kid and a small dog.
The detail in sculpting and hand painting of the figures is exceptional, and you may also notice very realistically done elegant bouquets and sprays of  flowers on the base as well as the bowl itself.
The bowl is reticulated with three-dimensional flowers on the outside, and painted flowers inside the bowl.
This compote is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, scratches or imperfections. It seems to be a hairline slightly noticeable on the back of one of the fence elements, but you can only barely see it at the bottom back of the otherwise perfect piece.
Dimensions:  the bowl measures approximately 5 ½” deep and with a 13.5” diameter. The base has a diameter of 10” and the entire compote is 20½” tall.
This compote is of great beauty and value, and is perfect for the antique porcelain fan, porcelain collector or someone looking for a truly unusual, original piece to decorate their room.
