This is a beautiful, fully restored, Marantz 2385 receiver with a new reproduction three piece wood case, owners manual, warranty and sales brochure copies.

The 2385 was made in 1977-1980 and boasts 185 watts of pure clean power with very low distortion.  Actual output is at 200+ watts per channel. The 2385 cost $1,095 back in 1977.  Inflation adjusted that is $5,201 in 2016 dollars. Only 5,345 units were ever made.  Maybe only half are still left. It was the third most powerful Marantz ever made behind the 2500 and the 2600 models.

This receiver has been professionally restored to the manufacturer’s specifications, but with the audiophile in mind, using only the finest available audio grade parts. This is not an average restoration, but a meticulously cleaned and totally rebuilt receiver with a silent background on all inputs. Nearly all of the E-Bay listings use the term “professional serviced”.  There is no comparison between a totally restored unit and a professionally serviced unit.  Also don’t buy into any listings that claim you should not replace parts because “they won’t sound vintage anymore”.

Not only will this listing show what actual work was preformed but I also provide a photo of all the parts that were replaced during this restoration.  Be advised each 2385 restoration is nearly identical regarding work performed and the parts that are replaced. Therefore, the parts photo used for all of my 2385 listings is a stock photo, but it is 100% accurate representing this actual restoration.

Restoration Description (128 new parts):

The AM and FM sections work as they should. The FM tunes brilliant stereo sound and has a near silent noise floor. Both meters operate perfectly. The phono section was built to have a completely silent and uncolored background and makes records sound amazing. No matter the input used, when the program material is of good quality, the sound is very natural, spacial, and warm. ELNA and Panasonic are the majority capacitors originally used in these receivers. All tolerances and values were kept the same to preserve the sound that Saul Marantz intended. By replacing these 35-year-old parts, which are dried out, creating noise, and/or out of spec, that classic sound quality is restored.  There are no disappointments here.

Receiver has some scratches on the face plate. Right top corner has a small dent but hardly noticeable with the gorgeous brand new wood case. Rear of receiver is also in great shape with all inputs, speaker connections, antenna, and original factory cord all in mint shape.  Please examine condition of unit for yourself with photos.

About me:

Ever since high school (late 70’s) I have enjoyed first hand the incredible sound and unparalleled looks of a Marantz receiver. Over the years I have owned nearly every Marantz receiver made between 1972 and 1980.  I currently own 6 Marantz Receivers. This includes the 2500, 2385, 2325, 2285B and two 2270’s (Champagne and Silver engraved units).

Marantz collecting and selling is a hobby of mine. I carefully screen the receivers I buy. Most of my units are purchased directly from the original owner or from other collectors. This is a time consuming search as you can imagine. That is why you don’t see many listings from me.

My restoration expert is Sal Barbaro, his restorations are superb and he stands behind his work.  Without his knowledge and passion I would not be able to be a high end Marantz collector and seller. Look on Audiokarma under Salbreth1 and see his posts including “Marantz 2500 back from the dead”.  He completely restored a Marantz 2500 from literally a pile of parts. Very few technicians have the skill set to completely restore the Marantz models I sell. Per his peers, many who are the long time Marantz technician experts on Audiokarma, they are extremely impressed by his work, you will be too!   I trust his work so much that Sal has now restored four of my own personal receivers and four sets of speakers for me.

I have sold 55+ Marantz units over the past 7 years. Review my E-Bay feedback, it is 100% positive and I intend on keeping it that way.

Because I pre screen what I buy, and then offer only fully restored Marantz receivers, they generally sell on E-Bay in a very short time. If you’re interested in this listing then make an offer sooner than later, otherwise it will be gone.  Again, my listings are different in the fact these are pre screened, fully restored Marantz units, and restored by an exceptional technician. My upcoming fully restored units will be a 2270, 2-2325 (both sold), 2-2330B and 2-2385’s (one from my personal collection).  In addition I have a Model 1182DC AMP.

Shipping a large and heavy receiver like this requires purchasing a large and sturdy box and heavy-duty packing materials. Therefore, I will charge a flat shipping rate of $100.00, which includes insurance, $10 heavy-duty box, heavy-duty packing materials and the actual shipping charge. I’ll refund you for any overages or I will request more if the $100.00 was still short on shipping, insurance and the supplies. I'm not looking to make or lose money on shipping. Please contact me with any questions.  Shipping to lower 48 US States only.
