GERMAN MODERNIST BAUHAUS STYLE DESK LAMP, 1938

This superb example of German Modernism was manufactured around 1938 in Germany.   Its very streamlined styling is reminiscent of Bauhaus and Modernist design at its best.  It was purchased from Zeitlos Gallery in Berlin, Germany, a well-regarded source for beautifully designed vintage Modernist items with an excellent website.

The lamp is made of chrome plated tubular steel with aluminum fittings; the shade is lacquered metal.  It stands just over 17” high and the length of its striking shade is nearly 20”.  The base is about 8” in diameter.  It is an imposing and exceptionally cool piece of modernist lighting.

The lamp is wired for a standard U shaped florescent bulb that produces a strong and clear light.  I am including two additional bulbs purchased in Germany.  Since it is wired for Germany/Europe, it requires a 100 W Voltage Transformer for American use and I am including that with the lamp (I purchased it when I first bought the lamp).  

On offer for $1500.00 is this exciting and rare example of pre-war German design.
