UK Commemorative Crown Coin Set


A set of six UK predecimal crown coins .
The coins in the set are listed below ;

1935
This coin was minted to celebrate the silver jubilee of King George V .
The unique design has an art deco image of St.George slaying the dragon .
Also known as the 'rocking horse' crown ,
this is the only UK crown coin with this particular design ,
the obverse has bust of King George V .
Bearing the edge inscription : DECUS ET TUTAMEN ANNO REGNI XXV .
This coin is in excellent condition with crisp detail , grade extremely fine .

1937
This coin was minted to celebrate the coronation of King George VI .
The unique design has the Royal Coat of Arms ,
this is the only UK crown coin with this particular design ,
the obverse has bust of King George VI .
This coin is in excellent condition with crisp detail , grade near extremely fine .

1951
Issued in 1951 to celebrate the Festival of Britain ,
the festival was a national event held throughout the UK ,
intended to showcase Britain & it's contribution to industry , science & the arts .
The reverse shows Benedetto Pistrucci's famous image of St.George slaying the dragon ,
the obverse has a portrait of King George VI .
Bearing the edge inscription in Latin : 'MDCCCLI CIVIUM INDUSTRIA FLORET CIVITAS' ,
translated as - by the industry of its people the state flourishes .
Minted to a superb proof FDC finish .

1953
The 1953 GB crown coin was minted to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II .
The obverse shows the Queen on horseback in her uniform as Colonel-in-Chief of the Grenadier Guards ,
the legend reads 'ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA BRITT OMN REGINA FIDEI DEFENSOR FIVE SHILLINGS' .
The reverse design shows a central crown in with a thistle , rose , leek and shamrock forming a cross ,
In the angles are four shields of arms , two for England & one each for Scotland & Ireland .
The coin has the edge inscription 'FAITH AND TRUTH I WILL BEAR UNTO YOU' .
Grade extremely fine .

1960
The 1960 coin was minted to mark the New York Exhibition ,
the Royal Mint had a trade stall there to demonstrate the minting process .
The obverse has a bust of Queen Elizabeth II ,
with the legend 'ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F D FIVE SHILLINGS' .
The reverse design is identical to the 1953 crown described above .
Grade extremely fine .

Issued as a memorial to Winston Churchill (1874-1965) ,
best known for his role as the British prime minister during WWII .
Obverse : A young head bust of Queen Elizabeth II .
