A classic book documenting the folk dress of the small mountain villages of Vazec, Strba, Vychodna, Liptovska Teplicka, and others in the Upper Liptov region in northern Slovakia (south of the Tatra mountains, just across the border from Poland). Folk costumes and other aspects of folk culture flourished there well into the mid-20th century, and are still worn for festivals and village celebrations.

Discusses the village costume according to the wearer (women's costume, men's costume, and children's costume), and according to usage (daily clothing, festival costume, and ritual dress), and the history and development of the costume since the 19th century. Extensive text with 231 illustrations, showing full costumes as well as cuts of items like blouses, shirts, vests, aprons, or details of embroidery or weaving in garments, towels, ritual cloths, etc.

A fine book to add to your folk collection! Thanks for looking, and check my other auctions for more items on folk art!
