HEAVY DUTY Kenmore Model# 158.10304 Straight Stitch (with Reverse Feed and ZigZag) serial number# 0002244 built in 1972 in Matsuyama, Japan. Some of the best machines have come out of Japan, and these Kenmore's are considered to be among the best of them. Very powerful Kenmore Model 1030 in very nice shape. Machine shows very well with less than average wear and tear for a machine this age (just a few small pin scratches, that's it!), and really lives up to Kenmore's legendary sewing reputation. The lady I purchased this from told me she purchased it new in 1973 and always had it serviced regularly as can be seen, but she is moving into an assisted living facility and can't take it with her. It is just in amazing shape for a 40 year old machine. This lil brute has real power too, and with it's 3/4 size frame and original carry case, this Kenmore 1030 is perfect for those "On the spot" repairs. Machine runs smooth, and penetrates dense material with ease. Machine has been cleaned and lightly oiled with Authentic Singer Machine Lube and has had the timing and tolerances checked and is perfect. 6-20 Stitches per inch, with Reverse and ZigZag. Heavy duty extra powerful Kenmore 1.0 amp motor. Excellent condition cords and foot controller. Steel Industrial Size Bobbins. Feed dogs are lowerable for Darning, Embroidery, and Freehand work. I am including a digital copy of the Kenmore model 1030 sewing machine owners manual on CDRom in .pdf format. This will guide you through the process of threading the upper needle thread as well as filling the bobbin and selecting the right needle and tension settings for the job at hand. It really makes sewing like a pro easy. Most importantly, it will show you exactly how to maintain your machine so that it will last another 44 years. The Kenmore 1030 comes with the 3 most important utility stitches built right in: 1: Zig Zag, for sewing on buttons, attaching lace, marking, appliques, monogramming, sewing patches, etc. 2: Three Step Zig-Zag, an elastic zig-zag for sewing terry cloth, overcasting, mending, darning, repairing sails and tarps, etc. 3. Blindstitch, provides a durable hem stitch that is virtually invisible, great for applying bias tape, lace, applying patches, or upholstery repairs.

Here is a sample of some Upholstery Cording I did on this machine. One hour on this machine and you will be doing these like a Pro too. It's fairly easy. First, you take a small strip of your Material and wrap it around a stretch of cording rope, and sew it tight with the included Special Zipper/Cording foot. Then, blanket that in two more layers of your Material and sew it tight against the Cord once more. Then trim your excess, and you should have a nicely corded piece. With this machine and the included attachments, you will be able to do your own Upholstery work like a Pro with just a few hours of practice.

We used Coats and Clark T26 (Size 69 equivalent) Nylon Upholstery thread for sewing our samples in this auction. It is water resistant and incredibly strong and made for indoor and outdoor use, such as but not limited to, car seats, furniture upholstery, boat covers, horse and pig blankets, car covers, motorcycle seats, repairing sails and tarps, etc. If you are planning on sewing heavy materials, I would suggest you purchase some of this or similar Heavy Duty thread. This type of thread is available at Walmarts, JoAnns Fabric Stores, and most sewing machine dealers for about $2 a spool(150 yards).
