Deep shiny chrome gettering typical of the early Brimar British made tubes.

I reproduce below an unedited testimonal from someone who bought 2 of these early Brimar 6060 and two Mullard M8162 (which is Mullards uprated 12AT7) in 1998 and did a back to back test and then emailed me his opinion.

So the valves, Mullard M8182 versus Brimar 6060

So the valves, Mullard M8182 versus Brimar 6060

First the Mullards

Warm up time is about 20 mins. The gain is good, lots of volume and the valves perform well in bass middle and treble. The sweet spot of these valves is definitely in the vocals. Nice.

Second the Brimars

Warm up time about 10 mins. The first thing you notice is how inoffensive and musical the sounds of all the instruments are. There is plenty of bass without being at all thumpy, the vocals outrageously realistic and warm but the treble is so sweet that even drums and bass guitar sound as they should, loud but totally natural. I can find no downside to these valves.

What more can I say, Wow!

In precise

Mullards, The reproduction is probably totally true to the original but wooden. I don't like them anymore.

Brimars, Possibly the sweetest thing I am ever likely to hear from my Hi-fi.

So have you got another set? I am happy to pay the market rate. I have to have another pair for the inevitable day when I wear these out.

Best Regards

If you want to read more about these tubes have a look at

http://www.audiotubes.com/12at7.htm which compares them with A2900 tubes and see what price they sell for..

From the golden age of vacuum tube production and from one of the best makers a good pair of well matched tubes - someone will be lucky to own these
