Jean Barol (1873-1966) had worked at the renowned factory of Clement Massier and circa 1913 founded his own studio together with three potter friends Marius Alexandre (1880-1959), Jean Carle and François Sicard. The pottery was situated in the Eden Roc in Golfe Juan, France.  The pottery was in operation from 1913 to approximately 1927, despite the departure of Barol and Sicard to Montières. It produced decorative items, plaques, garden urns, many using the metallic glazes distinctive of the Massier factory. The effects of the Second World War led to a decline in production.  In 1923, Barol returned to Cannes, where he opened a pottery studio in the Verrerie district of Cannes la Bocca.  In 1927, he achieved the Meilleur Ouvrier de France award and taught ceramics at Jules Ferry high school.
