Original vintage desk lamp, model GS 1, designed by CHARLOTTE PERRIAND for French manufacturer JUMO in 1960, and typical of designs of the Bauhaus and Eames era. The lamp features a round lampshade that is made of sheet metal lacquered military khaki green (dark greyish green) on the outside. There is one bulb casing placed in a cylinder sitting on top of the lampshade. The apex of the cylinder is detailed with contrasting chrome work and decorative perforations. The lampshade is fixed to the stem with a ball joint concealed in a chrome casing, so that the direction of the lampshade can be adjusted to the right and left. The stem is made of a gently curved metal rod, lacquered in matching colour. It is finished with two joints, set with and concealed by lustrous chrome clip-ons, allowing for adjustments in height and orientation. The round base is made of cast iron with a sheet metal cover lacquered military khaki green. The original white on/off switch button is located on the base and it is trimmed with a decorative chrome setting.

The lamp is in good vintage condition and in full working order. There are some marks commensurate with age and usage, as is usual for an item dating from more than 50 years ago: There are faint scratches and marks, as well as shallow abrasion of the lacquer work on a few areas, on the lampshade; faint scratches, marks, blemishes and craquelure of the chrome work on the joints and on the switch’s chrome setting; faint scratches, marks, minute oxidation stains and loss of lacquer work throughout the stem; faint scratches and marks, as well as shallow abrasion and craquelure of the lacquer work in a few spots, on the base. The chrome joints are a bit stiff but work well as demonstrated by the pictures. However, these do not interfere with the overall look of the piece and do not affect its structural integrity and stability. As with all GS 1 Jumo lamps, there is no protective sheet on the underside of the base: this is part of the original design and not a default. Please review carefully all the pictures, as they are an integral part of the description.

The lamp takes a bayonet cap bulb (not provided). It is fitted with its original black cord and continental plug. The lamp is fully functional but it has not been tested: As with all vintage electrical equipment, it is advisable to have it checked by a qualified electrician.
