In 1966, the Black Arrows display team "kidnapped" F/O Dudley Peasmold Grunthuttock - the teddy bear that was, at the time, the Mascot for the Red Arrows. The remains of the teddy were eventually returned to the Red Arrows in a tiny coffin - this was the plaque that was on the coffin. This incident was mentioned in Flight International at the time, a copy of the article will be included as well as some photographs of Dudley taken before the kidnapping. Also included is a coin presented to the members of the Red Arrows in 1965 by the Aero Club Ravenna to commemorate the 7th centenary of the birth of Dante My Dad was on the ground crew of the Red Arrows in the 60s, and this was always in my bedroom as a child. After leaving home, this stayed with me, eventually being relegated to the loft due to lack of space to display it. As it pains me to see it gathering dust, I feel the time has come to offer this to someone who would be better able to take care of this and maybe display it as pride of place in a Red Arrows memorabilia collection. Feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to answer them. I will also supply a letter of provenance to the winning bidder. I have also found a couple of, unfortunately, quite tatty photos of Dudley in uniform which I will include with the plaque - I hope to have scans of these soon and will add them to the listing (or emailing to anyone interested). | |
