STROMBECK WOODLINE Kit No.G-42, 1/59 scale, DOUGLAS D-558 "SKYROCKET", 1967

Strombeck Mfg. Co. kit, made for Bersted Hobby Craft Co, Monmouth, IL, kit made in Moline, IL by Strombeck, printing by Strombeck, Decal set from Strombeck, dated 1967.  This is "one of the three" LAST StromBeck woodkits manufactured by Strombeck and carried at that time with the "Woodline" label.    The 1967 Woodline D-558 kit is a rebox of the original Strombeck kit dating back to 1953, but by 1967, Strombeck had ceased to be the company name.  Quite a legacy of kit releases!

  • 2 piece display case, wood base and wire vertical

Kit includes ready-shaped wooden parts for fuselage, horizontal and vertical stabilizer, wings, finely shaped fuselage and needle nose.  The kit comes with a fully shaped and contoured solid plastic canopy.  The wooden base and spring steel wire display the kit in flight profile. The kit comes with sanding board and sand paper, both required to put final sand to the aircraft wing and stabilizer surfaces.   This kit in approximate 1/59 scale, is a very good representation of the actual rocket and jet-powered Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket flown supersonic (times 2)  by NACA and the United States Navy for research in the 50's.

I know some of the history of this kit purchase.  I purchased it in a 1967 sale from the Cardinal Craft Shop in St. Louis Mo. in the early 70's and it has been in my protective kit cellar since, untouched. Please check out my other listings purchased at the same time for the other kits within this WOODLINE collection:
